Community Regeneration
The Middlefield area currently suffers from rates of unemployment, truancy, drug use and other poverty indicators amongst the highest in Scotland.

A large number of houses in the area are unoccupied, creating a vicious circle where people are reluctant to move in and the dereliction becomes worse.

Healthy Roots aims to help to regenerate the area and is supported by the Great Northern Partnership, the Social Inclusion Partnership for the north of Aberdeen.

We are providing play areas and activities for local children (there were previously virtually no play facilities in Middlefield, which has a population of 2,900).

The food from the vegetable plot will be sold through the local food co-op or other local outlets in order to encourage healthy eating.

And we hope that by creating a beautiful and enjoyable spot in the neighbourhood we will change the image of Middlefield, helping to reverse the move away.
